Steady, the cherry blossoms will make you into the dancer
You wish to be. They swing and shape themselves
Around you, pulling the kites down and the earth in
To banish it out again - tide of the land, where you lease
And trade your fancies and knickknacks for its parts.

Your skirt is swept up and the cherry blossoms whisper
And you find yourself alone among them for
Just one, brief second. Breathing
Felt tight before this.

Through the chanting of the cherry blossoms
The kites gather, their colors bright in the dim
And white in the light, blotted across the blue,
A picket fence in the sky. Join us, the kites say.
Smooth down your skirt and
Let go the earth.

Then the blossoms fold in and watch out for you;
And you - you're off freeing the kites. You've forgotten
Who made you dance, who made you open
To some part of you
That you believed was yours alone.
